NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT (DAY 1)

Dearest Holy Spirit, confiding in your deep, personal love for me, I am making this novena for the following request, if it should be Your holy Will to grant it:

(mention your request).

Teach me, Divine Spirit, to know and seek my last end; grant me the holy fear of God; grant me true contrition and patience. Do not let me fall into sin. Give me an increase of faith, hope, and charity, and bring forth in my soul all the virtues proper to my state of life.

Make me a faithful disciple of Jesus and an obedient child of the Church. Give me efficacious grace sufficient to keep the commandments and to receive the sacraments worthily. Give me the four Cardinal Virtues, Your Seven Gifts, Your Twelve Fruits. Raise me to perfection in the state of life to which You have called me and lead me through a happy death to everlasting life.

Holy Spirit, inspire in us the practice of good.

Holy Spirit, grant us the merits of all virtues.

Holy Spirit, make us persevere in justice.

Holy Spirit, be Thou our everlasting reward.

Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,

Send us Thy Holy Spirit.

pour down into our souls the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

grant us the Spirit of wisdom and piety.

V. Come, Holy Spirit! Fill the hearts of Thy faithful,

Let us pray.

Grant, O merciful Father, that Thy Divine Spirit may enlighten, inflame and purify us, that He may penetrate us with His heavenly dew and make us fruitful in good works, through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who with Thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, liveth and reigneth, one God, forever and ever.

Be it done unto me according to your word. 
Pray to desire, receive, respond, and retain an active love & relationship with the Holy Spirit.

God will never ask us to do something He knows we couldn't do.
If He demands perfection of us; it means it's possible.


 "I hope that my will, my heart & my imagination is controlled by the Power of the Holy Spirit"

Holy Spirit, please come anew; fill me with your love, life, joy, peace, and wisdom as I pray for my personal Pentecost through the intercession of your beloved spouse, the Virgin Mary. Amen.

THERE IS POWER ENOUGH IN THE HOLY SPIRIT.

POWER is the special and peculiar prerogative of God,

By the power of God's word the heavens were made, and all the hosts of them;
By his strength all things stand, & through Him they fulfil their destiny.

Jesus Christ raised the dead, healed the leper & all kinds of diseases, He delivered those possessed of demons by the power of the Spirit.
The Spirit dwelt in Jesus without measure, and by that power all those miracles were worked.

The Holy Ghost has power over our hearts. The heart of man is very hard to affect. If you want to get to heart of man for any worldly object, you can do it. A cheating world can win man's heart; a little gold can win man's heart; a trump of fame and a little clamor of applause can win man's heart. But there is not a minister breathing that can win man's heart himself. He can win his ears and make them listen; he can win his eyes, and fix those eyes upon him; he can win the attention, but the heart is very slippery.

This power can save you as well as anybody else. It is able to break your heart, though it is an iron one;

 The Spirit alone has power over man's heart.

However, if there is one thing more stubborn than the heart, it is the will.

Free-will turned Adam out of the garden. Free-will was once in heaven; but it turned the glorious Archangel out, and a third part of the stars of heaven fell into the abyss.
Man battles with  free-will to do evil but very poor will to that which is good.

 The Holy Spirit has power over the will.

One thing more which I think is rather worse than the will.
The will is somewhat worse than the heart to bend, but there is one thing that excels the will in its naughtiness, and that is the imagination.

Imagination is a difficult thing to control. You cannot restrain it, It will break the reins, you will never be able to manage it.

 "My imagination will sometimes take me over the gates of iron, across the infinite unknown...,

My imagination has taken me down to the vilest kennels & sewers of earth. It has given me thoughts so dreadful, that, while I could not avoid them, yet I was thoroughly horrified at them. These thoughts will come; & when I feel safe in the holiest frame, & most earnest in prayer, it often happens that, this is the very time when the plague breaks out the worst."

 Can you chain your imagination? No; but the power of the Holy Ghost can.

Conclusively, at present the heart is partially impure, the will is deceptive & at present there are still lusts and evil imaginations.

Yet, the power of the Spirit is our power; the power of the Spirit is our might.
With conviction the power of the Spirit is our great help.

Put your trust in the power of the Spirit. Rest on the blood of Jesus, and thy soul is safe, not only now, but throughout eternity.
